The British Water Association is an association whose membership covers the entirety of the water industry and its many varied sectors. British Water, as an industry, represents the following parts of the UK water industry supply chain:

A brief history

British Water, formed in 1993 through the merger of BEWA (British Effluent and Water Association) and BWIG (British Water Industries Group), has become the leading trade association for representing the water industry’s interests. Along with its predecessor bodies, the association has been representing the interests of its members since 1938.

What do they do

Lobbing both regulators and governments for its members, the association also provides all vital information on home and overseas water markets for those requiring the information. This information includes:

  • how much is being spent
  • who is spending
  • how they are spending
  • what they are spending on

Regulatory work

Not only does British Water promote good practice in the industry, it also represents the UK’s water and wastewater industries’ best interests in terms of the following:

  • regulations and legislation
  • terms and conditions relating to contract and procurement practice
  • the creation of European and International standards

Membership

There are a number of benefits to becoming a member of the association, namely:

  • Opportunities for networking
  • Provision of information on markets, legislation, standards and suchlike
  • Competitive advantage
  • Representation to government, regulators and other institutions
  • Access to important, influential decision-makers in the industry
